Troop 32 History

Introduction to Troop 32
Troop 32 started in October of 1970 with 5 boys. It has always been sponsored by the Raymore Lyons Club. Mr Duncan was the first Scoutmaster. Other Scoutmasters have been Larry Petty, Charley Holloway, Mr. Woodward, Otis Barnes, Al Seroka, and our current Scoutmaster Dan Barnes. Dan has been Scoutmaster for a total of 24 years and he was one
of the first 5 boys.

The troop's first meeting place was Raymore Presbyterian Church. In 1995, they moved their meetings to St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The first troop flag was orange and black. In 1990, they adopted new colors of tan and brown. Also in 1990, the Raymore Lions Club donated the scout trailer.

The troop has always been active. High Adventure trips have included Philmont, Ely, Minnesota, and Packard. They have attended camp at H.Roe Bartle Scout Reservation every year and camped at all three camps. Many boys have become members of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Several boys have been involved with Order of the Arrow. The troop has always had a year-round program that included camping nearly every month. In the beginning, they did a lot of backpacking and pioneering, often hiking to a wooded area just off County Line Road, North of Raymore. Other favorite activities have included canoeing Missouri Rivers and cycling. Troop 32 has put hundreds of boys through the program, 85 of them became Eagle scouts. The first class of Eagles was in 1976. They consisted of Dan Barnes, Junior Woodward, Kevin Phifer, and Jay Petty.

The troops highest membership count is 2007 with 74 registered boys and 96 registered adult leaders, most of which participate regularly
